Men’s Fashion and Footwear January 2019 Video Compilation

The start of the new year means Spring 2019 styles are starting to drop if they haven’t already! I put together a few videos of some of the men’s designer collections we should see releasing soon. Some are short clips and others are full runway shows. Enjoy.

Louis Vuitton Men’s Precollection SS19

A short clip of an astronaut inspired menswear collection from Louis Vuitton. Check out the shades and shoes. Here comes intergalactic.

Prada Menswear Spring/Summer 2019 Fashion Show

I was honestly a little confused with this collection. There’s just a lot going on and some of these styles I just don’t see anyone replicating the way these models. are. Blazers and short shorts? Lets hear what you have to say. The shoe collection though…just weak.

Y-3 SS 2019 Fashion Show

I really thought this collection was amazing. From the outfits to the entire footwear collection. The outfits really represent the Y-3 aesthetic and the flowy outfits looked spectacular. I may have to pick up my first pair of Y-3 shows at some point this season!

The Latest Common Projects Derby Shine Review

From Sneakers to Derbys, How Did Common Projects do?

Common Projects Derby Shine

Happy New Years everybody! To start the new year, I decided to review one of my latest go-to shoes. Actually they have probably become part of my Top 3 favorite pairs now. The Common Projects Derby Shine. I purchased these just a couple months ago and they’ve broken in comfortably. Having purchased the Oxblood color option, these Common Projects Derby Shines have a nice combination of style and material that I didn’t already have in my always growing shoe collection. Here’s what I’ve got for the Common Projects Derby Shine Review.

Have You Ventured into Burgundy Yet?

If you don’t have any burgundy footwear in your closet yet, I highly recommend to get a pair. Burgundy is something you can get comfortable wearing quick and sets a nice tone with your outfits. From matching with dark colors and lights, burgundy shoes with any burgundy touch in an outfit is what I would recommend playing with in your wardrobe. These Common Project Derby Shines are a rich, burgundy (Oxblood) tone that goes very well with darker outfits. I’ve worn my new kicks with blue suits, to casual black blazers, and denim.

As shown in my previous posts, I own a pair of burgundy Common Projects Achilles Low and they’ve worn at least twice a week. However, now that I have these new Derby Shines it makes a fun challenge to see what will be worn more. Get on board with some burgundy.

What’s the Common Projects Derby Shine Actually Made with?

What you see is indeed a wedge on these Derby’s. The wedge, which most will say is a crepe sole runs the full length of the shoe. I believe it to be a crepe based material, but I can see where other people have said it’s mixed with some sort of other material. The sole does have a faint odor to it, which you may notice with your other crepe shoes as well. This is my first pair of any crepe-based sole shoes, so once I test out another pair I can let you know if that’s the case with all crepe shoes.

Common Projects Crepe Sole

The leather is indeed very unique. From a distance they look like a straight-up patent dress shoe. However, once you physically test the shoe and try it on you can definitely notice it’t not nearly as stiff as many other patent shoes out there. It’s just a high-shine leather.

What Creasing Issues?

Many have mentioned that they’ve received very noticeable creasing on their Common Projects Derby Shine, but I can’t say mine have. I’m on my feet most the day during work and am not always the easiest on my shoes. I also put the shoe tree back in after work. I’ll tell you again it really pays off to use your shoes trees. Anyways, by judging my photos you can see there is slight creasing, but not the extensive amount that many other buyers have mentioned about on theirs. That wear is from 2 months and having worn the shoes 10-15 times.

Common Projects Derby Shine Review

One thing I really enjoyed about the design of the shoes is how any contrast detailing was basically wiped out from the design process. I’ve noticed how some previous models of the Common Projects Shine Derby have had contrasting stitching with the soles. I’ve always thought that looked a little tacky. The burgundy stitching within the burgundy leather and black with black sole are the perfect look. It’s not overdone and the simplicity of the design speaks for itself.

These Speak Comfort From the Start

With crepe-soled shoes, most people will acknowledge that they will give you an extra bounce from the rubber latex material. Thus, alleviating some of the pressure off your foot with each step and absorbing pressure in general. These Common Projects definitely fit the case here (along with giving you a little more height) in making it easy to bounce around on your feet all day. I noticed it as soon as I wore them the first day. No discomfort whatsoever. The width on these actually seems a little wider than the Common Projects Achilles Low, which would either be a pro or a con depending on your foot. For me it was nice because I didn’t have to break them in.

Common Projects Derby Shine Side View

Sizing the Same?

Yes. I wore a 42 in the Common Projects Achilles Low and picked up a 42 in these as well. Some will say with the slightly wider footbed to go down to a 41. I would recommend just to stick with the same size you have in all your other Common Project shoes. Just tighten up the lace a bit tighter if you’re on the narrow size.

Final Thoughts on the Common Projects Derby Shine Review

These Oxbloods are definitely a winner in my book beginning with the color choice. Try a new color this season and let burgundy be one of the first ones you test out. You’ll be wondering why you haven’t worn the color all these years.

Common Projects Derby Shine Review

If you can still find the Common Projects Derby Shine online, then I would scoop it up if I were you. It’s a great business casual shoe. Go straight from the work desk to the dinner table after work. The slight shine elevates the shoe up to a dressier level and the minimalistic style is a versatile shoe to go with many outfits. Of course, if you’re just a Common Projects fan in general then this is a must have.

adidas Solar Inspiration NMD Review

My First Take of a Pharrell NMD

Cultures, Communication, and Color

A new month means another release drop for sneaker heads to further spend their hard earned money on. The adidas footwear factory engines continue to grind away at a rapid pace with new styles every week it seems. It’s hard just to keep up with all the non-stop releases on the shoe release calendar! Pharrell has also been busy at work with his more frequent footwear releases, of which this time I decided to partake in.

adidas Solar Inspiration NMD Chinese Characters

This November brought the release of the adidas Solar “Inspiration” Pack in four colorways. The release seemed to have a bigger production batch as shopping sites still had available sizes throughout the day. I decided on the Powder Blue / Light Pink color combo. My footwear closet doesn’t really have this color way and it seemed like an interesting combination.

First Thoughts on the adidas Solar Inspiration NMD Review

This different take with the customizable laces and the NMD plugs on the side connects with a specific customer. If you’re comfortable with vibrant colors, clashing patterns, and a more modernistic take of footwear then the adidas Solar NMD’s would probably be a great fit. For the just explained reasons, this is why it has taken me so long to even think about trying on a pair. The Pharrell NMDs aren’t disappearing anytime soon and there will always be new color way releases. As a result, there will always be a growing base of the initial customer base and people who get hooked into  future designs.

Pharrell x adidas HU Collaboration

Pharrell has also been a big promoter of including powerful messages that resonate with equality and the mixing of cultures with fashion. Pharrell loves incorporating “Leetspeak” within his footwear, a style of replacing letters with numbers. If you’re one who resonates with this style then you’ll probably be very intrigued with this footwear selection.

Solar Inspiration NMD Options

The adidas Solar Inspiration NMD came out in four colorways. The Powder Blue option that I am reviewing, a core black, neutral white, and a unique clear sky model. For comparison these are a much toned-down color variety from the previously released “Afro” pack. However, the “Inspiration” Pack still keeps the multicolor geometric print on the piping of the ankle.

adidas Solar Inspiration NMD with 3M

My Powder Blue Solar NMDs came with an extra pair of powder blue laces giving you the option to showcase a monochromatic look for the upper. Showcase that individualism! One of the really cool details about these NMDs is the incorporation of 3M technology with the laces and in the heel tab. The reflective technology is a nice subtle statement that people may really enjoy and gives off a little extra flair. Everybody always enjoys the options of extra laces. I know I hate having to find replacements since you always want that same pair from the brand.

Fit and Comfort Level

adidas Solar Inspiration NMD

One of my first thoughts for writing the adidas Solar Inspiration NMD Review was how the fit and comfort of these bright guys were going to be. The NMD have both a full length boost mid-sole and a primeknit upper, both staples of adidas technology. I have a pair of Ultra-Boost shoes which I absolutely love. The Primeknit material is thin and breathable , both important factors of sneakers. They do not however keep your feet well positioned, but that is probably a minor factor for many of you. For sizing, I would also recommend going down a half size.

Sliding into the adidas Solar Inspiration NMD is not easy as many other reviewers have also mentioned. For a wider foot the struggle will be real, as I even had to wiggle my slightly wider foot in. There is no give or stretch within that ankle opening area. After getting my foot in and walking around, I definitely noticed the well-known comfort level of the Boost mid-sole. The technology has definitely become a game changer for adidas.

We Have EVA Issues

adidas Solar Inspiration NMD EVA Plug

While I definitely appreciate the Boost technology being incorporated with the Solar NMD line, I can’t say the same for the EVA plugs on the side. As I was walked around, I continually felt a large lump under the arch of my foot that didn’t seem to quite match up. After testing it out, I realized it was the pink EVA plugs on the inside that put the awkward and uncomfortable pressure on my foot. Though it may seem like a thin piece of plastic, you’ll feel that as part of the footbed construction it raises the insole up and stiffens up the area. Some may argue that it gives it extra support (which it does), but this is something I would give up from a comfort standpoint.

Outsole Differences and Detailing

As with some of the previous Pharrell NMD releases, the Solar Inspiration Pack changed up the outsole. This new outsole feels more rigid, almost like a hiking oriented sole for tough terrains. The traction pattern is also more spread out and the outermost rim of the sole has small rubber spikes as well. I’m assuming that these soles should last longer than previous models, but you will have to let me know on that.

adidas Solar Inspiration NMD Rugged Sole

Some small details that I’ve already mentioned included the 3M technology, multicolor geometric piping print, and interchangeable laces. These shoes also include the Chinese characters for “Empower” and “Inspire” on each side of the foot.  The insole is another multicolored design with shapes representing different parts of the internal organs of the human body. This once again coincides with part of the HU communication line that Pharrell has been big on sending.

Wrap Up of adidas Solar Inspiration NMD Review

adidas Solar Inspiration NMD Pair

After walking around in these shoes, my opinion for the adidas Solar Inspiration NMD Review is that I wouldn’t recommend these shoes, for very specific reasons. One, I just am just not the customer to rock this type of silhouette. The shoes are definitely attention grabbers and may very well represent a targeted consumer’s style. The other factor was the comfort level. The EVA plugs on the side would be too bothersome for me on the long-term usage. It would bother me to where I would just switch into something else and never wear these again.

Feel free to review my other adidas NMD review and share your thoughts of the adidas Solar Inspiration NMD here.

Top Chelsea Boots for Fall 2018

My Favorite Men’s Chelsea Boots Currently Out There

Saint Laurent Wyatt Harness Boot $1009

Saint Laurent makes great shoes and for men one of the most recognizable Chelsea Boots, the Wyatt. With a 30mm heel the Wyatt Chelsea Boot may look like slightly higher heel, but you will notice no difference from the other Chelsea Boot options out there. The Wyatt has an elegantly cut silhouette with a slightly elongated toe, but is a classic designer option for those looking for an investment piece.

Paul Smith Gerald Chelsea Boot $249

English brand, Paul Smith has continually released one of their best looking boots, the Gerald Chelsea Boot every year in a variety of colors. I particularly like this dark grey, suede version. If you have a black and brown style boots in your collection already then find room for a rich-looking grey suede. Grey looks much better in a textured suede option as it visually makes the color much more stunning.

Common Projects Chelsea Boot Suede $530

At this point you’ve probably noticed I am a big fan of Common Projects and their sneakers. I haven’t had a chance to pick up their Chelsea Boots, but it is definitely one of the most recommended streetwear brand Chelsea boots out there. Add on a crepe sole and slightly wider toe bed, the Common Projects Chelsea boot is one you must take a look at.

Comme de Garcons Homme Plus Chelsea Boot $795

Of course there had to be a black leather option. It’s probably the first style your looking for! I believe this Comme de Garcons Chelsea Boot is a beautiful option. With a slightly lower cut around the ankle area and a conveniently treaded, rubber sole option for the weather, the Comme de Garcons Chelsea Boot will be a versatile option for all day usage.

Lanvin Black Knit Chelsea Boot $665

Classic Lanvin brings out one of the trendier Chelsea Boot styles out there for this Fall season. With a rib-knit, blue and black add to the very top, Lanvin brings a very modern take to a traditional style boot. Like it or not, it’ll be on the most unique Chelsea Boot options out there for men this season. That thick lug sole will also solve any issues if you’re looking for some amazing traction in your neck of the woods.

Ssense.com, Lanvin Black Knit Sock Chelsea Boots

As I mentioned in my previous post, Chelsea Boots are getting back into the footwear discussion for men. Sneakers still continue to dominate the discussion boards, but if you’re looking for other options out there then take a look at some Chelsea Boots. I would love to know what options you’re coming across there and what you have found to work for you.

A Chelsea Boot Should be Your Go-To, In Particular the Vince Chelsea Boot

The Vince Chelsea Boot Review for 2018

Vince Chelsea Boot Review

I’ve written in the past how I think a Chelsea Boot should have a home in every man’s shoe closet. If you’re not quite sure what a Chelsea boot is, just think of a flat boot that comes up just past ankle bone area, and has an elastic-stretch band on both sides of the shoe. A mouthful of a sentence, but simple enough to describe what a Chelsea boot is. Some may also call them Beatle boots.

The greatest benefit of a Chelsea boot? It’s versatility and functionality. Easy to slip on and off. If you’re going from work to the bar, then just rock your Chelsea boots. Plus, you’ll have a step-up in your fashion game to many of your peers out there. Go ahead and ask them what a Chelsea boot is. You’ll probably get mostly blank stares.

Now there’s thousands of options out there. Some with a crepe sole, maybe a Cuban heel, or maybe a little extra flair embedded in the design somewhere. You wear what fits you. One of the wonderful things about owning a variety of shoes are the way each pair can portray you in different lenses. So what’s my recommended pair of Chelsea boots? Well this post is about the Vince Chelsea Boot review.

Why the Vince Chelsea Boot?

I’ve owned the Vince Chelsea Boot for a minute now. They’re black and simple. I can wear them to work and for going out. I mentioned versatility earlier and it doesn’t get much easier to match with a black Chelsea boot. So why write about the Vince Chelsea Boot Review?

Vince Chelsea Boot Review Side Angle

Vince is a popular modern, trend brand that does everything from apparel to footwear. Many people know them for their easy slip-on footwear options. Basic style shoes in a variety of sole and color combinations. Their footwear options have continued to expand and with it their men’s footwear selection.

Having also been priced at a very reasonable price point, the Vince Chelsea Boot is a great option for somebody who wants an Italian-made shoe without having to break the bank ($200-$350). Vince shoes are also known for their comfort levels and being an all-day wearability shoe. So we have a combination of good price point, Italian-made quality shoes, and comfortability. I think any guy would buy into a shoe that combines all those basic necessities of a quality shoe.

Distinguishing Factors

Now we have a simple, black Chelsea boot that has a lot of great basic factors that many brands would use as selling points. Perfect. One of the biggest traits about the Vince Chelsea Boot that I love is the pebbled finish. A black, simple, pebbled textured Chelsea boot. Simple is great, but the finishes are what can make shoes stand out from each other. Just how we may purchase certain shoes with different patina finishes or design custom made shoes. They make you stand out from the crowd.

Vince Chelsea Boot Pull Tab

Most Chelsea boots out there are just a straight black leather boot with no extra finish or distinguishing design. Some of those Chelsea boots look disgustingly cheap as well. If it’s faux leather of feels like plastic then please avoid. You’re going to get a seasonal shoe. Please never go with anything patent on these boots either, if you do happen to come across a pair.

The nice thing with the pebbled finish is that it gives it a combination of a vintage look combined with a modernistic touch. Pebbled leather shoes are also usually softer giving you a great fit right away. I personally think it gives the Vince Chelsea Boot an edgier look as well as elevating the sophisticated feel about the shoe. Imagine this shoe with your wardrobe, you’ll see what I mean.

How do the Elastic Bands Hold Up?

Another great trait about the Vince Chelsea Boot is where the leather cuts around the ankle area. It doesn’t cut super high to where you feel like you have to have skinny fitting pants to make it work. It also doesn’t cut super low to where it feels like they cut the boot to short. The boot is cut at a great height just about the ankle bone area. Enough for you to tuck in or roll your pants over.

Vince Chelsea Boot Elastic Band

Six Months or a Couple Years

This is a question you probably always ask yourself. For footwear it should always be for the long-term. A higher quality leather boot will last much longer with wear n tear. With Chelsea boots you also want to look at the elastic bands on the side. Does the stretch seem pretty sold to where it will hold up? Or does it seem cheap to where it will rip after slipping them for a few months. The Vince Chelsea Boots has a solid stretch band with plenty of flex, but feel like they will hold up for a lengthy period.

The pull-tab on the Vince Chelsea Boot also is stitched on very well. Even after hundreds of pulls on this leather handle it’ll still hang on tight. I personally never like Chelsea boots when they have the front pull tab, it just overdoes it.

Vince Chelsea Boot Bottom Hybrid Sole

The Vince Chelsea Boot also has a nice leather and rubber combo sole. The heel is leather, with the front sole being a rubber base. You get the best of both worlds with the combination and have the capability to resole these for the future.

Slim-Fitting

Yes, the Vince Chelsea Boot in particular is form fitting. It has a greatly shaped toe box and fits just snug around your fit. You want a comfortably snug fit and the slimmer the cut of the footbed the sharper it’ll look. The Vince Chelsea Boot receives checkoffs on both of these points. If you do get a suede option, they do tend to be a little on the wider side.

Wrapping Up the Vince Chelsea Boot Review

The Vince Chelsea Boot Review gives you a broad spectrum of the many things to look for in a Chelsea Boot, but also why to look at Vince Chelsea Boots as well. The brand has done well from a product stand point and packs a lot of strong factors into their Chelsea boot selections. Of course there are some great designer options out there as well and I hope to get some reviews on here for you as well. However, I personally very much enjoy my Vince Chelsea boots and will get great use out of my current pair. Please leave your thoughts for the Vince Chelsea Boot Review.
