Nike Far East Collaborations
The newest of Nike Far East Collaborations have arrived. Nike has kept it fairly under the wraps about some of their past and recent collaborations with designers from the far east. In case you didn’t notice back in Spring of 2012, Nike released a limited edition collaboration with Japanese designer Tomokazu Matsuyama aka “Matzu”. The new trench coat design was part of the Nike Sportswear lineup. Remember coming across that? Probably not.
Anyways, the whole trench coat idea was not something you usually associated with Nike and their usual sporty attire. The Gore-Tex shell trench coat lineup (which included swift calligraphy brush strokes on the inside panels) was released with a set of sandals, aka the Tekapu Slide Premiums. Pretty nifty creation, which come with premium leather uppers, suede liners, and a symbolic design at the end of the shoe. If you’ve been looking for the samurai like sandal slip on attire, this fits the bill. Meanwhile, Nike has been coming out with another series of collaborations with Asian influences in the mix, with yet another Japanese artist in the “Gyakusou” series.
This Fall/Winter 2012 collection designed by Jun Takahashi incorporates many Japanese elements into the whole series. The collection utilizes more of the technical aesthetics from Nike. This includes their DWR technology and ventilation features crafted within the seams, giving it all the comfortable features Nike tries to advertise.
Though built for the running sports oriented people in mind, the Gyakusou series does look rather appealing for any people looking for something a little different on the market. This year’s Gyakusou series has been titled the  “Autumn Monks” to emphasize the camouflage textures added onto the collection. I think the whole collection which includes jackets, pants, liners, running shoes, could give some strong comparisons to Under Armour with the hint of a “ninjaish” feel to it and some mighty competition. Well, I never knew Nike had these collaborations before and thought it would be interesting to share since you probably never noticed them before either. Ready to join the Autumn Monks?
